Florence Sarkis
Florence Es-Haq Sarkis was born in a minister’s family in Iran, and from an early age she began teaching Sunday School.  Later on in life as a young adult, she took on the responsibility of managing, teaching, and planning activities for the Junior High and High School youth groups. Meanwhile, Florence was accepted at Tehran University, obtaining Bachelors and Masters degrees in English Literature. 
 
She also completed a three year program in Ministry Training offered by the Board of Christian Education of the Evangelical Churches of Iran, and later served as the director of the program, training many young men and women, some of whom are currently pastoring Assyrian and Armenian churches both in Iran and abroad. 
 
In 1986, she immigrated to the United States and resided in San Jose and obtained her second Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Theology from San Jose Bible College in May of 1995. Later, she taught courses on both Old and New Testament books, such as the Gospel of John, Nehemiah, Joshua, and the Song of Songs at the Farsi extension of San Jose Bible College.
 
Florence’s ministry at Bet-Eil Church includes directing the Sunday School program for seven years, leading worship, teaching various bible studies, and directing and teaching the women’s group.  As the leader of the Women’s Ministry, she has been the main speaker at the annual women’s seminars, and many retreats.  She also teaches the monthly women’s fellowship bible studies.
 
Florence has also been a regular speaker and teacher at the Bet-Eil TV program since the summer of 2008, completing a series of lessons providing an overview on each book of the Old Testament. Her next project will consist of doing the same with the books of the New Testament. 
Florence’s ministry has not only benefited Bet-Eil Church, but has blessed many others by her many book translations.  Among the books that she has translated are:
 
  • Sit, Stand, Walk by Watchman Nee;
  • Beauty of Ashes;
  • The Lord is My Shepherd by F. B Meyer;
  • Be Daring (Commentary and lessons on the Book of Acts) by Warren Wiersbe.
Florence is a teacher by occupation, teaching at Los Gatos Christian School. She has been married for 20 years and has two beautiful children, a daughter and a son.
