Welfare Group History

Bet Eil Assyrian Church has a thriving welfare committee.   Established back in 1992, it has disbursed funds to the needy in Georgia, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Greece, Russia, and Canada.   Within the United States, it has helped needy families and newly arrived refugees in San Jose, Modesto and Turlock.

Since January 2009, the welfare committee has had its own independent bank account which is not connected to Bet Eil Church’s general fund.  The current members are Qasha Fereidoun Es-haq, Carmen Benjamin and Ashour Tarverdi.

The most recent activity of the welfare committee was the Loaves and Fishes Fundraising Event which was held at Hilton Hotel, Santa Clara on September 18, 2010.  The event was an attempt to help displaced Christians from Iraq presently living in pitiful conditions in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Greece. A total of $17,600.00 was raised during this event. The committee members are in the planning stage to make these funds available to the refugees hopefully by Christmas season.
